Chambord Castle an amazing place

Château de ChambordChambord Castle is located near the town of the same name, in the Loir-et-Cher (Centre region). It is the largest of the Loire castles, built in a style typical of the Renaissance in the sixteenth century. The monument was more a function of prestige defensive.

The monument was commissioned by King François 1er, but we do not know the name of the architect who designed it. Experts have highlighted the influence of Leonardo Vincu, but the master died before the work will start in 1519.

This was a very ambitious project for its time. The king called for deflecting the course of the Loire to the area past the castle, but this proved impossible. As the ground was swampy, they had piles of oak sinking to 12 meters deep foundations. The building has not yet been inhabited for a long time: after the death of François 1er, his successors did not want to use it and it fell into disrepair before being restored.
